We have tried over the last few months to remain positive and optimistic BUT Orphans First is proving untenable as a process and our daughter is stuck in an orphanage as a result. We wholeheartedly support the goal of Orphans First - to make sure that adoptions are ethical. However, this process is not accomplishing the goal and the children are the victims.
We have called on our Senators and Congressmen for help and are hopeful that they will be able to make real change for all of the waiting families caught in this bureaucratic nightmare. It cannot come soon enough. We just want to bring our daughter home. Its really that simple.
We cleared the Vietnam side of the process at the start of 2008. This means that Vietnam approved our adoption and now waits with us for Ada to leave the orphanage. To be clear, we are now only waiting for approval from US CIS and the US Department of State -- its called I600 approval. Getting this approval should have been a fairly straight forward process.
Before Orphans First was implemented in late 2007, families traveled to Vietnam, and waited in country for this approval with their adopted children. This entire process used to take about 2 weeks to complete. We've now been waiting for months and still have no end in sight.
